Scottish Weather

Plan is up for breakfast and board the 11.10 ferry to South Uist. Breakfast went well and we were told last night that they sometimes need to cancel the big ferries due to inclement weather, however, the little ones still usually run. Catherine Mary, the manager sweeps into the breakfast room to announce that our ferry has been temporarily cancelled with an update to follow at 10.30.
We drive off in hope. Hope was dashed whilst in the line, the ferry was not going anywhere. Come back at 3pm and we'll review the situation.

Not very nice
So we came back to the hotel to kill 3 hours and pray for the storm to pass. They're a friendly lot, so it was ok and a nice fire to keep us warm.

Another interesting place on Barra is the airport. It is unique as it's the only one in the world to use a beach as a runway. At high tide the runway is under the sea and flight times vary with the tide.
