The Isle of Lewis

Harris and Lewis are very similar until you get to the main town of Lewis, Stornoway. Suddenly, you leave mountains and rocks and slip into something a bit flatter and a whole lot greener. We booked into the same hotel we stayed in 6 years ago, The Royal, and funnily enough we were awarded the very same room #27.

The view

We went to Lochboisdale for the culinary experience but in fact Stornoway won the award. Not for the weather though....rain, hail and very little shine.
Three choices of bars to eat, all of them good. A sample of our delicious fare...

Slow Roast Belly Pork

Madras Seafood Curry

Why would you order a curry in an English pub? Because the chef was from abroad and very authentic. It was scrummy and full of garlic. Poor John.

This was a dessert ordered by two girls at our next door table. I rudely took a photo cause I literally could not believe my eyes. It's a Rocky Road Cocktail...

We also had a beer in a heritage listed bar, tiny usually just a one room affair, and often unchanged from the 1930's, barmaid included!
